Headin' Back to Renn Fayre by Bear Wilner

Well, I was just a simple Reedie
I seemed to have my shit together
I read my books and wrote my papers
And drank my coffee by the quart.
I started feelin' pretty good by
The time I turned my thesis in
I didn't stop to think for a second
That that would cut it all so short.

So the profs they shook my hand
And cast me out into the world
I figured I'd follow fortune
And be merry all the while.
But the real world's got some tricks to it
And though we'd always planned on fixin* it
It's plenty stubborn, heartless,
And they'll shoot you for a smile.

CHORUS:
So I'm headin' back to Renn Fayre
I got my drinkin' cup and my trusty bowl
I got two eyes open so wide
And I'm grinnin' to beat the band.
And as the fireworks light up the night
Old friends and new we hold on tight
And vow as many years go by
We'll gather once again.

You see, I've wandered here and I've rambled there
I've had good luck, sure, more than my share
But I'd gotten used to a circle where
I felt I really fit.
I don't care much for pilin' profits up
Or for the fashions that everybody does
I only want to be with the ones I love
To kick up our heels a bit.

CHORUS

I hopped into a jeep just yesterday
With a woman I met in the strangest way
She told me if I cared to go
She was glad to drive me home.
We got to talkin' about our memories
And all the wild sights we still hoped to see
I couldn't sit still as the miles rolled on
And I knew I was not alone.

CHORUS

So hey, now, here we all are
At the center of the action
And we're just beginnin' to realize
How good it's gonna get.
I guess I'll smile and shake my head a while
At the worries that've gone outa style
If I could take it all back
I wouldn't change a bit.
